First, let’s talk about the history of Three Brothers Bakery and where they are located.
Where and What is the Three Brothers Bakery?
The Three Brothers Bakery is located in Houston, Texas, and has three different locations in the city. One on Washington Avenue, one on Kingsride Lane, and the last one on Braeswood Boulevard. They also have a fairly large online presence and can take orders on the internet as well.
The History of the Three Brothers Bakery
As for the history of the bakery, it started quite a long time ago. In 1949 on May 8th, Sigmund, Sol, and Max Jucker opened the original Three Brothers Bakery on Holman Street in Houston. Their story is so inspiring because the three brothers and their older sister were previously held in a Nazi concentration camp and made it out alive just before they started the original bakery.
Because there were no mixers at the time, everything was made completely by hand. They also did everything on their own for the first 13 years, until they hired their first employee in 1968.
Some of the products they made at that time, like their coffee ring, are still sold in their modern bakeries today. On top of that, many of their current baked goods still use the original Eastern European formulas – the challah (which is an egg bread) cheese pockets, rye bread, danish bread and many other bakery items have been made the same way for almost 70 years.
Currently, the Three Brothers Bakery is a full-service and award-winning bakery in Houston with huge amounts of different baked goods and unique cakes. The business has operated continuously since they originally opened, except for a three-day closure after the tropical storm Allison, and closing for 9 months after Hurricane Ike. However, they still paid all of their employees the entire time they had to shut down.
To this day the company is still run by parts of the Jucker family. Sigmund Jucker’s son Robert, who is a 5th generation baker, now runs the whole company with his wife Janice, and his Aunt Estelle (Sol’s wife).
The bakery and its creations are featured on Food Network’s Outrageous Food – they showcase the businesses’ Pumpecapple Piecake. They are also featured on the Food Network Challenge – Extreme Pirate Cakes. Their pecan pie on its own has won many, many awards, and has been referred to as “The Best Mail Order Pie in America” by Southern Weddings, Country Living Magazine, Town & Country Magazine, and Bon Appetit.
