Shyndigz is the very first dessert restaurant in Richmond, Virginia, and they have an excellent bakery and to go service as well. They were one of the very first cafes of their kind in the city and have stayed one of the most popular for all the years they have been open.
The company was originally started by a couple, Nicole and Bryon Jessee back in June of 2010. They were inspired by the popularity of shows like TLC’s Cake Boss and Food Network’s Ace of Cakes. Seeing how interested people were in delicate and unique cakes was all the motivation they needed to start their own cake business.
Bryon has a culinary background, he graduated from Johnson & Wales University, and Nicole got a degree in art. They decided to combine the two to make an incredibly innovative and unique experience for customers that was completely new to Richmond. Before this venture, the couple had owned an art cafe in Charleston, South Carolina.
When they first opened their new business up, they wanted Shyndigz to just be a one-stop shop for special occasions, but they quickly realized that this wouldn’t be an option. They say that having the cafe and the incredible specialty cakes is all they can handle and have made that their full-time business and goal.

Shyndigz makes birthday cakes, as well as speciality cakes and desserts that are served in the cafe and available to order for other events. Previously they did wedding cakes in addition to these other treats, but the owners say that they are phasing that out for now. Because their popularity is growing so much, they want to stick to limited products that they can focus all their time on.
If you are interested in visiting or purchasing desserts from them, just keep in mind that this dessert cafe is only open on three days of the week and they do have pretty limited hours. They are open from 4-11 PM Thursdays and Fridays, and from noon to 11 PM on Saturdays. However, if you are ordering a cake for pickup, you can order and pick up from 3 to 5 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and after 3 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
