About Albertsons Bakery
Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, borrowed $7,500 in 1939 from his wife’s Aunt Bertie and joined with L.S. Skaggs will open his first Albertsons shop in Boise, Idaho, on 16th and State Streets. Joe knew how to run a great store, and it was all about hard work for the customers: giving them what they wanted at a reasonable price, with lots of kindness and loving care. Joe was also creative.
Moreover, he worked seven days a week on his ambition to create his firm, and the first store succeeded thanks to his inspirational work ethic and unwavering commitment to running the best store. By the end of 1941, he had opened two more stores in adjacent villages and increased the small company’s sales to more than $1 million.
Albertsons is now a subsidiary of Albertsons Companies, one of the country’s major food and medicine shops. With a strong local presence as well as a national footprint, the company runs stores under 20 well-known names in 35 states and the District of Columbia. Today, Albertsons Companies is dedicated to improving people’s lives across the country by making a real difference, neighborhood by neighborhood. Millions of individuals benefited from these efforts in the fields of food alleviation, education, cancer research and treatment, programs for persons with disabilities, and veterans outreach.
